FCT INAUGURATES DELEGATION ON 2011 CHRISTIAN PILGRIMAGE
The FCT delegation for 2011 Christian pilgrimage to the Holy land has been inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of State, FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjinde in the Conference Room of her office on Monday 17th October, 2011.
The committee which is charged with the Onus of ensuring a hitch free conduct of 2011 Christian Pilgrimage among others is lead by Senator Philip T, Aduda, the Senator representing FCT, while Dr. Lazarus Z. Gaza, Director, FCT Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board serves as its Secretary. Its other members include Rev. Bob- Alonge, Founder and Overseer of Capital Assembly, Rev. Fr. Innocent Jooji and Mr. Mazi Emmanuel.
Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide enjoined the delegation to strive at achieving maximum success. The Honourable Minister of State expressed optimism that 2011 Christian Pilgrimage will be made the best ever considering the caliber of personnel assembled for the assignment.
The Honourable Minister of State charged delegation to ensure the well being of the intending pilgrims, provide adequate security for them and make sure that FCT does not record a single case of abscondment.
Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide disclosed that it is the first time the appointment of the leader of FCT delegation to the Holy Land is made by the President Goodluck Jonathan. This according to her, is a telling testimony of confidence and trust the President reposes on Senator Philip Aduda who she said, was also appointed in 2003 by the then FCT Minister to lead the delegation.
The Honourable Minister also explained that even though the Board of Directors of FCT Christian Pilgrim Welfare board will soon be inaugurated, it will by no means conflict with the work of the Committee.
This year’s pilgrimage, the Hon. Minister added, will be extended to Sinai, Rome and Cyprus and in future Spain will be included.
Reacting, the leader of the delegation Senator Philip Aduda promised that the Committee will put in place everything that will make this year’s Pilgrimage a total spiritual fulfillment for the pilgrims.
Senator Aduda during a short interactive session with the Press shortly after the inauguration said, 1,000 seats was allocated to FCT out of 1,500 applicants out of which 12 people were disqualified. He also reiterated that paramount to the Committee is the issue of welfare of the pilgrims.
The leader of the team also gave assurances that adequate measures have been put in place to checkmate potential abscondees.
The Flag-off date for this year’s Christian Pilgrimage operation is October 29th while FCT intending pilgrims will be airlifted starting from November 6th, 2011, he stressed.
