FCT COMMITTEE ON CLEAN AND GREEN ENLIST SUPPORT OF TRADITIONAL CHIEFS, MAJOR GROUPS IN WAR AGAINST FILTH
In furtherance to the mandate of its committee to rid the Federal Capital Territory of filth piling up in major areas of the City, the Clean and Green Greater Abuja Committee led by its Chairman, Madam Jumai Kwanashie has solicited support of traditional chiefs in the fight against indiscriminate dumping of refuse especially along major roads.
In a release signed by Isiaka Kehinde, the Media Assistant to the FCT Honourable Minister of State, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, a twenty two member committee comprising line Directors in the FCT Administration inaugurated by Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide have sprung into action in line with its mandate to make the FCT visibly clean within a shortest period of time.
The statement added that the intention of the Minister in directing the committee to curry support of traditional chiefs and other major groups in the cleaning initiative is to make it all inclusive.
The ongoing visit to traditional chiefs which commenced on the 5th October 2011, with a visit to the Tsarki Nyanya has led the team to Sakarhyi’s place and other Chiefs in the satellite areas of the FCT. While responding, the Tsarki Nyanya deployed the care-free attitude of some residents who are hitherto paying oblivion to the heaps of garbage almost taking over major roads in Nyanya and Karu areas and promised to work with the Committee to realize its set objective.
Meanwhile, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide has declared total support for the committee; she said this why reacting to the report of the Monitoring Committee of the Clean and Green Greater Abuja in her office yesterday.
The Honourable Minister of State said no effort would be spared in bringing the culture of cleanliness to the consciousness of the Abuja resident. She therefore called on the members of the Committee to continue identifying waste dump sites and ensure immediate evacuation for an improved healthy living of the populace.
