 The current and 11th Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Adegoke Samuel Adegoroye, OON, was born on 27th August, 1950 at Akure, Ondo State. He graduated from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, with BSc. (Agric.) in June, 1974 and the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, where he obtained his Ph.D in Ecophysiology in April, 1980.Dr. Goke Adegoroye started his Public Service career at his alma mater, the Obafemi Awolowo University in 1975 and rose to the position of Senior Lecturer and Member, University Senate. In 1990 he joined the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA) where he set up the Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Department and was in 1996 appointed Acting Director-General of FEPA, a position he held until 1998 after which he was redeployed to the Presidency. He served as Director (Special Duties) and Head of Think Tank to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation from June, 1999 until February 4, 2004, when he was appointed as the pioneer Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR). He was appointed Permanent Secretary on August 15, 2007, and has served as Permanent Secretary, Manpower Development Office (MDO), Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education; Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation and Ministry of Interior before his current posting as Permanent Secretary, FCTA. Dr. Adegoroye, a seasoned bureaucrat highly respected service-wide, has won many national and international leadership recognitions including: the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Obafemi Awolowo University, 1997; Award on Leadership in Global Environmental Management and Enforcement, Mexico (1994); Thailand (1996); and California (1998); Presidential Commendations in Public Service in 2001, 2004; Obafemi Awolowo University Alumni National Honour 2007, etc. He was decorated by the President of Nigeria with Nigeria’s National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on 22nd December, 2008. Dr. Adegoroye is well published with over 100 publications in such diverse areas as Ecophysiology; Environmental Management and Sustainable Development; Human Resource Management and Public Service Reforms; He is a member of the Africa Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM), the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (CAPAM); the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR), and the International Institute for Administrative Sciences (IIAS); and the Initiator and Editor of Nigeria Public Service Reforms Series.
