The Department of Public Building is statutorily responsible for the design, supervision and construction of public buildings, housing and social facilities in the Federal Capital Territory . These include;
• Public Offices for Government Ministries and their agencies • Residential houses for government functionaries and resettlement purposes. • Stadia, cultural centres and similar social facilities. In order to realize the above objectives, the Department handles the under listed tasks among others; - design and supervision of projects, - supervision of consultants where they are so commissioned. - Procurement of new projects. In addition to projects that are directly being handled by the department, the department supervises projects of the social development secretariat and other agencies. The funding of projects are from two sources; National and Statutory budgets. ORGANIZATION The Department has seven (7) Divisions with an Administrative/Public Relation Unit. The Divisions are Architecture, Construction & Services, Quantity Surveying, Logistics & Archives, Ministry & Cultural Building, Institutional Building and Housing & Resettlement respectively. 1.0 PROJECTS FUNDED FROM NATIONAL CAPITAL BUDGETS. 1.1 COMPLETION OF FEDERAL MINISTRY BUILDING PLOT 04 PHASE II The contract for the completion of Federal Ministry Building Plot 04 Phase II was awarded to M/s Bulet International Ltd in January 2002 at initial contract sum of N4,061,000,000.00 and later revised to N6,343,314,441.47 in January 2007. 1.2 COMPLETION OF SHEHU SHAGARI PRESIDENTIAL COMPLEX. The contract for the completion of the Shehu Shagari Presidential Complex was awarded to M/s Gitto C.G. Nig Ltd at a contract sum of N2,650,000,000.00. in year 2006. The complex was redesigned into offices for the staff of the office of SGF and presidential aides. 1.3 NIGERIA CULTURAL CENTRE & MILLENNIUM TOWER. Contract for the construction of Nigeria Cultural Centre & Millennium Tower was awarded to M/s Salini Nig. Ltd. in November 2005 at a contract sum of N53,126,750,689.04. 1.4 CONST. OF NATIONAL ASSEMBLY COMPLEX PHASE III PART II Contract for the construction of the National Assembly complex Phase III part II was awarded to M/s Julius Berger Nig Plc at a contract sum of N22.98 billion in May 2007. 1.5 CONSTRUCTION OF PROTOTYPE FEDERAL MINISTRY BUILDING PLOT 08 PHASE II The procurement process for this project is in progress. The tender closed on 6th August 2007. There was a provision of N3.15 billion in the year 2007 for the project. The scope of this project includes the construction of 4-storey podium Minister’s block, 4-storey podium Library wing, 12-storey Tower block “J”, 12-storey Tower block “G” with parking, 6 storey link block, 4 storey conference block and associated external works. The total floor area of offices to be provided is about 26,000 square meters. The sum of N1,000,000,000.00 has been proposed in 2008 budget proposal for the take-off of the project. 1.6 COMPLETION OF NIGERIA INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS BUILDING . Contract for the completion of NIIA Building was awarded to Messrs Julius Berger PLC in December 2006 at a contract sum of N2.516 Billion. The sum of N1,000,000,000.00 has been proposed under the 2008 budget. 2.0 PROJECTS FUNDED FROM STATUTORY BUDGET. 2.1 CONSTRUCTION OF FCT ARCHIVES BUILDING. Contract for the construction of FCT Archive Building was awarded in February 2006 to M/s AIPDC at a contract sum of N541,987,456.45 and later reviewed to N593,088,588.39. The project is expected to be completed in year 2008. 2.2 GALUYI-SHERE RESELTTLEMENT HOUSING PROJECT. Contracts for the construction of 2,276 Housing units comprising of 2,269No-2BR and 7No-4BR houses were awarded to 216 contractors at a contract sum of N7,473,480,336.48 in June, 2006. 2.3 APO RESELTTLEMENT HOUSING PROJECT Contract for the construction of 877 Housing units comprising 385No 1-Bedroom, 398No 2-Bedroom, 90No 3-Bedroom and 4No 4-Bedroom houses were awarded to 110 contractors at a total contract sum of N2,565,267,822.87 billion. 2.4 WASA RESELTTLEMENT HOUSING PROJECT Contract for the construction of 931 Housing units comprising 355No 1-Bedroom, 406No 2-Bedroom, 168No 3-Bedroom and 2No 4-Bedroom houses were awarded in May 2007 to 93 contractors at a total contract sum of N3,026,528,168.52. only. The project is being funded from the provision made by the Department of Resettlement and Compensation in the 2007 statutory allocation budget in the sum of N2.9 billion. 2.5 CONSTRUCTION OF 13NO POLICE POSTS Contracts for 13no Police Post in various parts of the city was awarded in March 2007 at a total contract sum of N83,366,390.78. The project is being funded from the provision of N225 million under Operational Support to Security Agencies in FCT in statutory allocation budget. 2.6 CONSTRUCTION OF POLICE STATION/POSTS IN GALUYI-SHERE RESETTLEMENT TOWN. Contracts for the construction of 4Nos police posts and 1No police station at Galuyi-Shere Resettlement town were awarded to 3Nos contractors at a total contract sum of N48,814,524.77 in May, 2007 with contract period of 12 weeks. Works have commenced on the 4Nos police posts while site allocation for the police station is being processed. 2.7 CONSTRUCTION OF POLICE STATION/POSTS IN APO RESETTLEMENT TOWN. Contracts for the construction of 1No police station and 2Nos police posts in Apo Resettlement town were awarded to 3Nos contractors at a total contract sum of N35,988,926.25 in May, 2007with contract period of 12 weeks. |
