 Chief Chuka Odom Chief (Barrister) Julius Chuka Odom was born on 19th October, 1960, in Okwu, Ikeduru in present day Imo – State. He attended Holy Trinity Primary School, Okwu, Ikeduru and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Umuahia before proceeding to the old Imo State University in 1981, where he bagged a Bachelors degree in Law (with honours) and was called to the Bar in 1987.
Mr. Odom began his law practice in the law firm of Tagbo Nwogu & Co in Aba, Abia State, after his one year National Youth Service in Ken Anyegbunam Chambers, Enugu. Between 1987 and 1999, Odom was the Pioneer Legal Adviser of UNCP (Abia State Chapter), under the party leadership of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu. In 1999, Chuka Odom was appointed Special Adviser (Special Duties) to Governor Orji Uzor Kalu and was elevated to Deputy Chief of Staff in 2002. Between 2003 and 2007, he served variously as commissioners for Lands, Survey and Urban Planning as well as Commissioner for Special Duties in Abia State.
In 2007, as one of the pioneer members of the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA), Chief Odom vied unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives seat for Ikeduru Federal Constituency, Imo State. In August the same year, Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State appointed him the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, from where he was appointed Minister of State in the Federal Ministry of Environment, Housing & Urban Development in October, 2007.
In July 2008, Chief Odom was unanimously voted as chairperson of the all African Ministerial Conference of Housing & Urban Development (AMCHUD) during their 2nd bi-ennial conference held in Abuja. By November 2008, Chuka was re-nominated by his party as a Ministerial nominee and was re-appointed Minister of State for FCT.
Chief Odom is a member of several professional and religious bodies, including Nigerian Bar Association (Aba Branch); Aba Sports Club; International Bar Association (London) and Catholic Diocese Pastorial Council, Aba.
He is also the Chairman of Wall House (WA) Limited; Founder/Trustee, Hope Foundation and External Solicitor to First Bank of Nigeria PLC; Guaranty Trust Bank Plc; Afribank Nigeria Plc and UBA Plc, among others. |
